Mainland Spokesperson: Taiwan DPP’s ‘Information Cocoon’ Crumbles as Cross-Strait Exchanges Grow

A Chinese mainland spokesperson asserted on Wednesday that the 'information cocoon' constructed by Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities is collapsing, as residents of Taiwan increasingly access unfiltered insights about the mainland through digital platforms. Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, addressed claims by some Taiwan media outlets alleging 'brainwashing' of youth, emphasizing that cross-strait exchanges are fostering mutual understanding.

Zhu noted that the DPP authorities have long restricted access to mainland-related information, promoting what she called 'misleading narratives.' However, rising internet penetration and social media engagement have enabled residents across the Taiwan Strait to 'see each other's daily lives more clearly,' she said. This shift, Zhu argued, is exposing what she described as the DPP's 'fabricated lies' about the mainland.

The spokesperson highlighted efforts to strengthen cross-strait ties, including invitations for Taiwan compatriots—particularly youth—to visit the mainland. 'We are committed to creating better conditions for them to pursue opportunities and realize their potential,' Zhu stated, underscoring the mainland's focus on fostering grassroots connections.
