The Chinese Foreign Ministry condemned what it called "baseless accusations" from G7 members regarding arrest warrants issued for individuals linked to illegal election activities.
Spokesperson Lin Jian stated Monday that Hong Kong police actions strictly adhere to the Hong Kong National Security Law and international legal standards. "These measures target anti-China elements seeking to destabilize the region – they are lawful, justified, and necessary," Lin emphasized during a press briefing.
The diplomatic clash emerged after G7 members described Hong Kong's pursuit of overseas-based activists as "transnational repression." China countered by accusing certain countries of practicing "hypocritical double standards" through unilateral sanctions while criticizing legitimate security measures.
Analysts suggest the dispute highlights growing tensions between Western governments and Beijing over interpretations of national security jurisdiction. Hong Kong authorities maintain their actions protect the region's stability under the "one country, two systems" framework.
