The 2025 Chengdu World Games Village unveiled its Chinese Bridge cultural zone on Friday, offering athletes and visitors an immersive gateway to Mandarin language learning and traditional arts. Jointly organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under China's Ministry of Education and Chengdu University, the initiative aims to foster cross-cultural understanding through hands-on experiences.
Interactive Cultural Experiences
Participants can choose Chinese names, practice calligraphy, cook regional dishes, and paint giant pandas – Chengdu's iconic residents. A themed photo studio provides snapshots with cultural backdrops, while language workshops enable basic conversational skills. Organizers emphasize these activities help international guests "see a real, multidimensional China" beyond sports competitions.
Bridging Cultures Through Language
The project aligns with China's efforts to globalize its language education programs. Over 3,000 young athletes from 100+ countries and regions are expected to engage with the zone during the World Games. "Language is the key to mutual understanding," said a Chengdu University representative, noting the initiative's role in cultural rejuvenation efforts.
Analysts suggest such cultural diplomacy could strengthen China's soft power as global attention focuses on Chengdu, a hub of technological innovation and UNESCO City of Gastronomy.
