China has extended a warm welcome to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of his participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, scheduled for August 31 to September 1. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun confirmed Modi’s attendance on Friday, emphasizing China’s commitment to fostering regional cooperation.
The summit, described by Guo as the “largest in scale since the SCO’s establishment,” will bring together leaders from over 20 countries, including all SCO member states, and heads of 10 international organizations. The event is poised to address pressing geopolitical and economic challenges while strengthening multilateral ties across Asia.
“China welcomes Prime Minister Modi to the SCO Tianjin Summit,” Guo stated, adding that the gathering aims to promote “solidarity, friendship, and fruitful results.” He expressed confidence that the summit would mark a new phase of “high-quality development” for the SCO, characterized by enhanced coordination and dynamism.
The meeting comes at a critical juncture for Asia’s evolving economic and security landscape, offering a platform for dialogue on trade, counterterrorism, and infrastructure development. Analysts suggest Modi’s presence underscores India’s strategic interest in balancing regional partnerships amid global uncertainties.
