China has strongly criticized recent U.S. actions to restrict AI chip exports, calling it a dangerous politicization of global trade during a Thursday press briefing. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Gua Jiakun condemned the U.S. Justice Department's indictment of two Chinese nationals accused of bypassing export controls on Nvidia Corp's advanced semiconductors.
"The U.S. is turning technology and trade into weapons to contain China's development," Guo stated, emphasizing that such measures "violate market principles and international trade rules." The remarks come as Washington intensifies efforts to limit China's access to cutting-edge AI hardware through export bans and corporate restrictions.
Analysts warn the escalating tech rivalry could fragment global supply chains, with Asian economies particularly vulnerable. Over 35% of the world's semiconductor manufacturing capacity resides in the region, according to SEMI industry data.
Guo urged Washington to "immediately cease unreasonable suppression of Chinese enterprises" and protect the legal rights of Chinese citizens. The dispute emerges ahead of November's APEC Leaders' Meeting, where trade tensions are expected to dominate discussions among the 21 member economies.
