Weng Ming: Embracing Uncertainty in Transformative Eras

Chinese animation director Weng Ming recently shared a poignant reflection on navigating times of change, drawing inspiration from novelist Tian Xia Ba Chang's work The Street Guitar Band. "Before those monumental eras begin, people often have no idea what's coming," he quoted, capturing the essence of his generation's experience during China's reform and opening-up period.

In an interview for the literary program PAGE X, Weng described how he and his peers entered adulthood "with both fear and hope" amid societal transformations. What initially felt like uncertain wandering, he noted, laid the foundation for China's creative industries to flourish through perseverance and adaptability.

The director offered advice to emerging artists: "Every pioneering era begins with unremarkable yet courageous first steps." His commentary bridges China's cultural evolution with universal themes of navigating change, resonating particularly with global creatives and diaspora communities maintaining ties to Asian cultural developments.

Produced by Zhang Jingwen and Zhao Ying, PAGE X continues its mission to connect audiences with literary works through diverse professional perspectives. Previous episodes have explored Taoist philosophy's modern applications and cross-cultural interpretations of Western classics.
