China's aviation sector reached a new milestone as the V2000CG CarryAll, a domestically developed electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, successfully completed its first cross-sea cargo mission to an offshore oil platform on Sunday. The 2.3-tonne aircraft demonstrated China's growing capabilities in low-altitude logistics innovation.
Departing from Shenzhen in the Chinese mainland, the emission-free aircraft carried 150 kg of fresh fruit and medical supplies during its 58-minute flight over open waters. It landed precisely at a China National Offshore Oil Corporation platform located 150 km from shore, showcasing potential applications for maritime energy infrastructure support.
Developed by the state-owned China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC), this achievement follows three years of rigorous testing. Aviation analysts note the flight's significance in validating heavy-load eVTOL capabilities under challenging maritime conditions, with implications for emergency response and island supply chains.
The breakthrough aligns with China's strategic push to develop its "low-altitude economy," projected to reach $70 billion by 2025. Industry experts suggest such technology could revolutionize logistics for offshore wind farms, maritime research stations, and island communities across Asia.
