China Launches Pakistan Remote-Sensing Satellite to Boost Regional Cooperation

China advanced its space collaboration with Pakistan on Thursday through the successful launch of the Pakistan Remote-Sensing Satellite (PRSS-1) from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province. The event marks another milestone in Beijing's growing technological partnerships across Asia.

At 10:00 a.m. local time, a Kuaizhou-1A carrier rocket propelled the Earth-observation satellite into its planned orbit. The PRSS-1 – developed through joint China-Pakistan efforts – will primarily support land resource management and natural disaster monitoring, offering critical data for agricultural planning and emergency response systems.

This launch represents the 29th mission for the Kuaizhou-1A rocket series, underscoring China's expanding capabilities in commercial space operations. Analysts note the project aligns with Beijing's broader Belt and Road Initiative to share technological infrastructure with partner nations.

While primarily serving Pakistan's development needs, the satellite's data could benefit neighboring countries facing similar climate challenges. The launch occurs as Asian nations increasingly turn to space technology to address food security and disaster resilience concerns.
