New Animated Film ‘Nobody’ Revives Forgotten ‘Journey to the West’ Characters

In a bold reimagining of Chinese literary heritage, animated film Nobody breathes new life into overlooked characters from the classic novel Journey to the West. Slated for release on August 2, the project transforms nameless yaoguais (supernatural beings) into protagonists navigating a modern allegory of self-discovery.

In an exclusive CGTN interview, director Zhao Ying explained: "We wanted to explore the untold stories of these background figures – their struggles mirror today's ordinary people chasing dreams against all odds." Executive Producer Zhang Jingwen emphasized the film's universal themes: "It's about finding purpose in a world that often overlooks the 'nobodies'."

The creative team employed cutting-edge animation techniques to blend traditional Chinese mythological aesthetics with contemporary visual storytelling. Producer Yang Sha noted the challenge of making 16th-century characters resonate with modern audiences: "Their quest for scriptures becomes a metaphor for personal growth – something every viewer can relate to."

Industry analysts anticipate the film could spark renewed global interest in Chinese literary adaptations, following recent successful cross-cultural animated features.
