Chongqing transformed into a hub of literary energy as the 33rd National Book Expo drew over 1,000 exhibitors to the city from July 25-28. The event, centered at the Chongqing International Expo Center, expanded its reach with satellite venues in Nan’an and Dazu districts, blending traditional publishing with cutting-edge cultural innovation.
Historical Tributes Meet Modern Storytelling
The Nan’an District’s Jiangnan Book Market captivated visitors with three immersive zones. A special section commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression stood alongside showcases of local authors and a retrospective on Lao She’s Chongqing connections, creating bridges between past and present.
Digital Rebirth of Ancient Art
Dazu District stole the spotlight with its ‘Stone Carvings in Volumes, Digital Rejuvenation’ theme. Interactive installations breathed new life into China’s iconic grotto art, while augmented reality displays allowed visitors to ‘flip through’ digital recreations of ancient stone carvings – a testament to how technology is reshaping cultural preservation.
The expo’s fusion of historical depth and technological innovation attracted publishers, educators, and tech developers, reinforcing Chongqing’s growing role as a crossroads for China’s cultural and digital economies.
