Ethiopia-China Cultural Week Kicks Off in Beijing, Strengthening Ties

A landmark cultural and business exchange between Ethiopia and China launched in Beijing on Thursday, commemorating 55 years of diplomatic relations. The event – the largest Ethiopian cultural showcase in China in nearly four decades – features traditional music, dance, and art from over 100 performers, offering a vibrant window into Ethiopia's rich heritage.

The program coincides with growing economic collaboration between the two nations, with bilateral trade reaching $3.4 billion in 2023. Business forums running parallel to cultural events will explore partnerships in infrastructure, renewable energy, and agricultural technology.

"This exchange bridges civilizations while building practical cooperation," said Ethiopian Ambassador to China Tefera Derbew during the opening ceremony. The Chinese Ministry of Culture highlighted the event as part of broader efforts to strengthen people-to-people connections under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation framework.

Performances include the eskista dance, recognized by UNESCO, and contemporary fusion pieces blending Ethiopian instruments with digital art. The week-long program also features coffee ceremonies, photographic exhibitions, and handicraft workshops open to the public.
