China, Kyrgyzstan Strengthen Ties in Infrastructure & Security

China's National People's Congress Standing Committee Chairman Zhao Leji concluded a high-level visit to Kyrgyzstan this week, pledging to deepen practical cooperation through major infrastructure projects and enhanced security collaboration. The meetings marked a significant step in implementing bilateral agreements under the Belt and Road Initiative framework.

During talks with President Sadyr Japarov, Zhao emphasized progress on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway project – a vital transport corridor expected to boost regional connectivity. 'This railway isn't just steel tracks, but a pathway for shared prosperity,' Japarov remarked, highlighting plans to modernize border ports and expand digital trade platforms.

The discussions yielded concrete plans for cooperation in:

  • Green energy development
  • Cross-border road networks
  • Legislative coordination for business environments
  • Joint counterterrorism efforts

Zhao reaffirmed China's commitment to Central Asian stability, proposing expanded cultural exchanges and livelihood projects. Kyrgyz leaders expressed strong support for China's positions on regional affairs, particularly regarding the Taiwan region and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Parliamentary cooperation emerged as a key theme, with Speaker Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu pledging to align legislative efforts with infrastructure development goals. Both sides agreed to establish new working groups for educational and technological collaboration.
