China Pledges Global Climate Collaboration at UNFCCC

China has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing global climate governance, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stating Thursday that the country stands ready to collaborate with all parties to implement the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The remarks followed the International Court of Justice's recent advisory opinion clarifying nations' obligations under international environmental law.

"We must uphold the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities while building a fair and equitable system for climate cooperation," Guo said during a daily press briefing. The ICJ's July 23 opinion, which recognizes the UNFCCC as the primary legal framework for addressing climate change, has been hailed by some nations as a milestone in advancing climate justice.

The development comes as countries worldwide intensify efforts to balance economic growth with environmental sustainability. Analysts suggest China's proactive stance could influence upcoming climate negotiations, particularly regarding technology transfers and financing mechanisms for developing economies.
