China Battles Record Heatwaves with Emergency Cooling Measures

Nationwide Alerts Issued as Temperatures Soar Above 45°C

China is grappling with one of its most intense heatwaves in recent years, with the National Meteorological Center renewing orange alerts for high temperatures across multiple regions. At least eight weather stations in Shaanxi Province recorded historic highs this week, while Turpan in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region – often called China's 'fire stove' – saw temperatures surge past 45°C.

Regional Responses Intensify

In Shanxi Province, where temperatures exceeded 42°C, authorities opened public cooling stations and deployed street-spraying vehicles. Yuncheng City established rest areas offering free water and air-conditioned shelters. Henan Province introduced staggered work shifts for outdoor laborers, prioritizing health safety during peak heat hours.

National Emergency Infrastructure Activated

Over 20,000 high-temperature alerts have been issued nationwide this year – a 72% increase compared to the 2017-2022 average. Police patrols intensified in Turpan to ensure road safety under extreme conditions, while meteorological authorities predict partial relief through incoming cold fronts and rainfall in eastern regions.

Long-Term Climate Patterns Emerge

While northern areas anticipate temperature drops after Friday, central provinces like Hubei and Henan face prolonged heat due to shifting air masses. The National Early Warning Center's data reveals a 40% year-over-year increase in heat alerts, highlighting growing climate challenges.
