Mainland Voices Firm Opposition to U.S.-Taiwan Official Exchanges

The Chinese mainland has reiterated its strong opposition to any official interactions between the United States and the Taiwan region, emphasizing adherence to the one-China principle as a cornerstone of cross-strait stability. Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, stated Wednesday that Beijing firmly rejects Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's proposed "transit" to the U.S., calling it a provocative maneuver that undermines regional peace.

"The U.S. must strictly honor its commitments under the three China-U.S. joint communiques," Chen urged, warning against sending misleading signals to separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence." The remarks come amid heightened tensions as Washington considers expanding engagement with Taipei.

Chen highlighted that 183 countries globally recognize the one-China principle, describing it as an "irresistible trend" in international diplomacy. The spokesperson also appealed to Latin American and Caribbean nations to approach Taiwan-related matters with caution, encouraging alignment with China's regional cooperation frameworks.

Analysts suggest the statement reflects Beijing's growing concern over perceived external interference in cross-strait affairs, particularly as economic ties between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan region remain deeply interconnected. The development carries implications for global supply chains and foreign investors monitoring Asia-Pacific stability.
