China Reaffirms Support for Iran’s Sovereignty, Nuclear Talks

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pledged continued support for Iran's national sovereignty and opposition to 'power politics' during high-level talks in Tianjin on Wednesday, signaling strengthened bilateral cooperation amid regional tensions.

Solidarity Against External Pressure

Wang, a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, emphasized China's commitment to helping Iran 'defend legitimate rights through political negotiation' while promoting regional stability through good-neighborly relations. The meeting occurred as Iran participates in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) ministerial meetings, with China currently holding the rotating presidency.

SCO Collaboration Deepens

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi acknowledged China's 'invaluable support' and endorsed Beijing's leadership in preparing for the upcoming SCO summit. Both sides agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and expand economic cooperation, building on their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Nuclear Diplomacy Progress

Araghchi reiterated Iran's commitment to non-proliferation while asserting its right to peaceful nuclear technology. Wang welcomed Tehran's willingness to resume multilateral negotiations, stating: 'China opposes threats of force and advocates dialogue-based solutions.' The discussions highlighted Beijing's balancing act as both a nuclear deal stakeholder and Tehran's strategic ally.
