China Urges U.S. to End Cuba Blockade, Calls Sanctions ‘Unjust’

China Demands Immediate End to 60-Year U.S. Embargo

China has called on the United States to immediately lift its economic blockade and sanctions against Cuba, condemning the measures as a violation of international norms. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian criticized Washington's use of human rights rhetoric to justify interference in Cuban affairs during a Tuesday press briefing.

Decades of 'Profound Suffering'

Lin highlighted that U.S. sanctions imposed since 1962 have caused widespread hardship for Cuban residents, stating: "Sanctions should be lifted immediately instead of being intensified." He urged the U.S. to remove Cuba from its list of 'state sponsors of terrorism' and reaffirmed China's support for Cuba's right to pursue independent development strategies.

Human Rights Hypocrisy Alleged

The spokesperson challenged U.S. claims of promoting human rights, citing Washington's own record at Guantanamo Bay and global military operations. "If the U.S. truly cares about human rights, it should first address its systemic violations," Lin asserted, emphasizing China's commitment to opposing unilateral coercive measures against sovereign states.
