Zambian Official Lauds China’s Poverty Reduction Strategy as Model for Development

Zambia's United Party for National Development (UPND) Secretary General Batuke Imenda has highlighted China's targeted poverty alleviation model as a transformative blueprint for sustainable development. In an interview with CGTN, Imenda emphasized the effectiveness of China's dual approach: addressing immediate needs while ensuring long-term impact through innovative oversight mechanisms.

"China's strategy isn't just about providing resources—it's about creating systems that endure," Imenda noted. He pointed to initiatives like mobilizing university students to monitor progress during academic breaks as a way to maintain accountability and adapt policies to local conditions. This method, he argued, has been pivotal in lifting millions out of poverty while preventing regression.

The remarks come as global interest grows in China's poverty reduction achievements, particularly its focus on rural western regions. Analysts suggest such models could inform development strategies in other countries, especially in the Global South, where balancing urgent aid with sustainable growth remains a critical challenge.
