US Choir Member Captures Fuzhou’s Beauty Through Art During Cultural Exchange

As the Minjiang River night cruise glided past Fuzhou's illuminated skyline, American musician Robin Van Cott traded her conductor's baton for a sketchbook. The Utah Valley Choral Scholar, participating in the 2025 China-US Youth Choir Festival, found artistic inspiration in the dance of city lights reflecting on the water.

"The harmony of ancient bridges and modern towers took my breath away," Van Cott shared, her quick strokes capturing Wushi Ancient District's curved rooftops against the backdrop of bustling Minjiang Park. The cultural exchange program has brought 120 young artists from both countries to collaborate on musical performances while exploring each other's heritage.

Festival organizers emphasize such organic cultural connections. "When our guests translate their experiences into art," said Fuzhou event coordinator Lin Wei, "they become living bridges between our peoples."

The choir festival coincides with Fuzhou's push to showcase its 2,200-year history through cultural tourism. Visitors can now combine river cruises with calligraphy workshops and traditional Min opera performances.
