China Advocates for Asia-Pacific Security Cooperation at ASEAN Forum

Chinese Foreign Minister Stresses Dialogue Over Division at Regional Meeting

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of unity and sustainable security frameworks during the 32nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers' Meeting on Friday. As a key multilateral platform, the ARF plays a vital role in maintaining stability across the Asia-Pacific region, Wang noted in his address.

"Asia-Pacific's development has benefited from the region's peaceful environment," said Wang, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. He warned against zero-sum mentalities that create division, urging members to address both symptoms and root causes of conflicts through dialogue.

Wang outlined China's three-part vision for regional security: a framework balancing effectiveness with sustainability, a model prioritizing consultation over confrontation, and solutions drawing from the Bandung Spirit's emphasis on coexistence. The proposals align with China's longstanding advocacy for "common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security" in international relations.

The foreign minister reaffirmed China's commitment to working with regional partners to bridge differences and enhance confidence-building measures. His remarks come as ARF members explore ways to strengthen preventive diplomacy amid evolving geopolitical challenges.
