China Unveils Green Maritime Plan to Boost Global Shipping Efficiency

China has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to transform global maritime shipping through green innovation, smart technology, and international collaboration. Released on Friday to mark the 20th National Maritime Day, the proposal aligns with China's role as the world's largest goods trader, where 95% of import-export cargo travels by sea.

Driving Sustainable Trade

With its marine economy exceeding 10 trillion yuan ($1.4 trillion) in 2024, China aims to lead the shift toward low-carbon shipping. The plan prioritizes green port infrastructure, energy-efficient vessels, and eco-friendly shipping routes. A Ministry of Transport statement emphasized building 'a clean energy supply system while strengthening marine ecological protection.'

Smart Solutions for Global Networks

China's maritime network – spanning major countries and regions – will integrate AI and automation to optimize logistics. The proposal highlights digital transformation across shipbuilding, port management, and supply chains, reinforcing China's dominance in fleet size and port capacity.

Collaborative Vision

The plan encourages shared technological advancements and policy coordination among trading partners. Analysts suggest this could reshape global supply chains, offering opportunities for investors and businesses in renewable energy and smart logistics sectors.
