Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for enhanced regional collaboration during Thursday's ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Malaysia's capital, emphasizing the group's role in driving economic resilience and integration across Asia.
Addressing counterparts from ASEAN nations, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, Wang highlighted the mechanism's 25-year track record in crisis management and economic coordination. "Our cooperation has created new momentum for development while navigating complex global challenges," stated Wang, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
The veteran diplomat noted significant progress in food security, financial stability, and public health initiatives under the framework. He proposed three key priorities for future collaboration: accelerating the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership implementation, strengthening supply chain networks, and expanding digital economy partnerships.
The meeting comes as ASEAN+3 nations account for nearly 30% of global GDP, with combined trade volumes exceeding $12 trillion annually. Analysts suggest the discussions could influence regional responses to fluctuating energy markets and technological competition.
