Youth choirs from China and the United States launched a harmonious collaboration in Fuzhou this week, commemorating the 80th anniversary of World War II's conclusion through a shared musical tribute. The "Bond with Kuliang: 2025 China-U.S. Youth Choir Festival" opened on July 10, blending traditional folk songs with contemporary compositions at historic venues across Fujian Province.
Organizers described the event as "a bridge of melodies" connecting generations and cultures. "These young voices carry forward the lessons of history while composing new chapters of understanding," said festival director Li Wei during the opening ceremony at Fuzhou's Strait Culture and Art Center.
The program features joint performances by 150 singers aged 15-22, including renditions of wartime ballads reinterpreted for modern audiences. A highlight included a bilingual arrangement of "The Song of Peace," incorporating elements from both Chinese and American musical traditions.
Cultural observers note the timing holds particular significance amid current global tensions. "Music transcends political differences," remarked Stanford University ethnomusicology professor Dr. Emily Chen, who attended the opening night.
