Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted significant progress in China-ASEAN relations during Thursday's Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, emphasizing strengthened regional integration and shared economic opportunities.
Strengthening Regional Integration
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that cooperation has accelerated across trade, infrastructure, and security. 'The pace of regional opening-up has become more resolute,' he stated, pointing to streamlined customs procedures and cross-border digital initiatives benefiting businesses across Asia.
Security and People-Centered Progress
Deepened security collaboration and simplified visa processes were cited as key achievements, with tourism and academic exchanges between China and ASEAN nations reaching pre-pandemic levels. Over 200,000 students now participate in bilateral exchange programs annually.
The meeting concluded with commitments to advance the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), building on ASEAN's position as China's largest trading partner since 2020.
