Typhoon Danas Hits Taiwan, Threatens Chinese Mainland Coast

Typhoon Danas made landfall in Chiayi County of China's Taiwan region late Sunday, bringing destructive winds and torrential rains that triggered power outages and landslides. The storm weakened upon impact but continues to pose significant risks as it approaches coastal areas of Zhejiang and Fujian provinces.

China's National Meteorological Center maintained a yellow alert Monday, forecasting Danas will shift course toward the Chinese mainland's eastern coastline. Meteorologists predict potential landfall between Taizhou and Fuzhou by July 8 evening, with sustained winds reaching 40 meters per second at peak intensity.

The storm has already caused infrastructure damage across Taiwan, including over 1,000 affected households in Kaohsiung City and disrupted transportation networks. Emergency crews worked through the night to clear debris from a Taitung County mudslide.

Zhejiang Province activated a Level II emergency response, its second-highest alert, as maritime authorities suspended shipping operations. The typhoon's residual circulation is expected to linger through July 11, potentially triggering heavy rainfall across southern and eastern China.

Business travelers and residents in coastal regions are advised to monitor evacuation advisories, while academics note this storm highlights growing climate challenges in Asia's typhoon corridor. Cultural sites in affected areas remain closed until further notice.
