China Braces for Typhoon Danas as Southern Regions Face Heavy Rain

Yellow Alert Renewed Amid Intensifying Storm

China's National Meteorological Center (NMC) renewed a yellow typhoon alert on Sunday as Typhoon Danas gains strength over the South China Sea. The storm, moving northeast at 10-15 km/h, is projected to bring torrential rain and gale-force winds to coastal regions of Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang, and the island of Taiwan through Monday.

Projected Path and Regional Impacts

As of 5 a.m. Sunday, Danas was located near 21.3°N latitude and 118.1°E longitude. Forecasters predict it will cross the Taiwan Strait from south to north by Monday morning, potentially making landfall along the island's western coast. The typhoon is then expected to enter the East China Sea, approaching coastal areas between northern Fujian and central Zhejiang.

Extreme Weather Warnings

The NMC forecasts:

  • Winds up to 102 km/h in the Taiwan Strait and Bashi Channel
  • 230 mm of rainfall in parts of Taiwan
  • High waves along southern coastal waters

Residents in affected regions have been advised to avoid coastal activities and monitor evacuation orders. China's four-tier weather warning system remains at yellow – the third-highest alert level – indicating sustained winds between 41-50 km/h.

Regional Preparedness Measures

The National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center warned of dangerous sea conditions through Monday noon, particularly near the island of Taiwan and Guangdong's coast. Local authorities in Zhejiang have activated emergency response protocols, with fishing fleets recalled to harbor and tourist attractions temporarily closed.
