China, Ghana Mark 65 Years of Diplomatic Ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa exchanged congratulations on Saturday to commemorate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between their nations. The milestone highlights decades of collaboration rooted in mutual respect and shared development goals.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized Ghana’s historic role as one of the first sub-Saharan African countries to establish ties with China in 1959. He praised the “sound and stable” growth of bilateral relations, citing deepened political trust, fruitful cooperation across sectors, and aligned positions on global issues.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the China-Ghana strategic partnership. Wang proposed leveraging the anniversary to expand collaboration, while Ablakwa acknowledged China’s long-standing support for Ghana’s socio-economic progress. “The Ghanaian side looks forward to working with China to ensure our partnership continues to thrive,” Ablakwa stated.

The anniversary underscores China’s deepening engagement with Africa, offering insights for investors eyeing cross-continental opportunities and researchers analyzing South-South cooperation trends.
