China has expressed support for growing diplomatic engagement between Russia and Afghanistan's interim government, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation in fostering stability. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated Friday that Beijing welcomes Moscow's formal recognition of the Afghan interim government, calling it a 'new development' in international relations.
'As a traditional friend and close neighbor of Afghanistan, China believes the country should not be isolated from the global community,' Mao said during a regular press briefing. The remarks come as global powers reassess their approaches to Afghanistan amid ongoing security challenges and humanitarian concerns.
China maintains that international engagement should focus on supporting Afghanistan's reconstruction efforts and counterterrorism measures. 'We encourage the Afghan interim government to address international concerns while pursuing development goals,' Mao added, highlighting Beijing's commitment to bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
Despite political shifts in Kabul since 2021, diplomatic channels between Beijing and Afghanistan have remained open. Both nations have maintained operational embassies and worked to advance bilateral ties, according to the Foreign Ministry.
