China, EU Urged to Anchor Global Stability Amid Turbulence

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the critical role of China-EU cooperation in stabilizing an increasingly fragmented world during high-level talks in Brussels on Wednesday. Meeting with European Council President Antonio Costa, Wang framed the partnership as a counterbalance to rising geopolitical tensions and economic headwinds.

"In today's world marked by turbulence and transformation, unilateralism and bullying are severely undermining the international order," said Wang, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee. "As two major powers and economic players, we can serve as anchors of stability."

The veteran diplomat outlined three pillars for collaboration: maintaining dialogue to prevent bloc confrontation, preserving open markets to sustain globalization, and upholding multilateralism to address global challenges. His remarks come as businesses increasingly seek predictable frameworks for cross-border investment amid US-China trade frictions.

Wang reaffirmed China's long-standing support for European integration, stating Beijing would "maintain consistency and stability" in its EU policy regardless of external conditions. The position aligns with growing European efforts to strengthen strategic autonomy in defense and technology sectors.

Analysts suggest the meeting signals potential alignment on climate initiatives and digital governance reforms. With both sides accounting for nearly 35% of global GDP, their coordination could significantly influence post-pandemic recovery efforts and supply chain restructuring.
