On the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter's signing, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, emphasized the urgent need to preserve the international order anchored by the United Nations. Speaking at a General Assembly commemorative event, Fu highlighted the Charter's enduring relevance in maintaining peace and fostering cooperation amid rising global challenges.
"The UN Charter established the bedrock of multilateralism after the World Anti-Fascist War," Fu stated, urging nations to reject historical revisionism and safeguard the post-war international framework. He called for adherence to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and peaceful dispute resolution, while opposing unilateral force.
Fu underscored China's commitment to advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and promoting a "community with a shared future for mankind." As the first signatory of the UN Charter, China reaffirmed its dedication to multilateralism through concrete actions, including addressing climate change and economic inequality.
The envoy's remarks come as geopolitical tensions test the UN's role in conflict mediation. Fu stressed that "true multilateralism" requires collective action through UN platforms, urging renewed focus on equitable development and security cooperation.
