China, Hungary Strengthen Human Rights Dialogue at Budapest Symposium

Experts and officials from China and Hungary gathered in Budapest this week for a landmark symposium on international human rights, highlighting cross-cultural cooperation and shared visions for equitable global governance. The event marked a significant step in fostering East-West dialogue amid growing calls for inclusive approaches to human rights frameworks.

Under the theme "Consensus on International Human Rights: Retrospect of the Past 80 Years and Prospects of the Future," participants examined historical milestones since the UN's establishment while charting paths for addressing modern challenges. Baima Chilin of the China Society for Human Rights Studies emphasized: "Mutual respect and multilateral cooperation remain essential pillars for advancing human rights through sustainable development."

Chinese Ambassador Gong Tao reinforced bilateral alignment, stating both nations "oppose the politicization of human rights and reject double standards" while respecting national sovereignty. The sentiment found strong resonance with Hungarian representatives, including Hungarian Workers' President Gyula Thurmer, who endorsed China's principles for "building a world order based on equality and non-interference."

Cultural diversity emerged as a recurring theme, with Magyar Demokrata's Andras Bencsik advocating for "human dignity rooted in respect across linguistic and historical differences." The symposium concluded with commitments to strengthen academic exchanges through institutions like the Eurasia Center.
