Hong Kong Marks 5 Years of National Security Law: Stability & Progress

HKSAR Forum Highlights Law's Role in Safeguarding Development

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government hosted a high-level forum on Saturday to commemorate the fifth anniversary of its national security law, emphasizing its role in transforming the city from chaos to stability since its implementation in June 2020.

Xia Baolong, head of the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stated during his keynote address: "The law has not only safeguarded national sovereignty but also created a secure foundation for Hong Kong's prosperity. It protects the lawful rights of residents and maintains investor confidence."

Officials highlighted the law's alignment with the 'One Country, Two Systems' principle, which they argue has entered a "new era" of implementation. Xia urged continued efforts to strengthen legal frameworks and foster a stable environment for economic growth, noting Hong Kong's pivotal position in global finance and trade.

The forum concluded with calls for cross-sector collaboration to address emerging challenges while maintaining social order—a priority for businesses and residents alike.
