China Calls for Global Unity, Multipolar Order at SPIEF 2025

Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang outlined a vision for international cooperation during his keynote address at the 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), emphasizing the need to 'champion humanity's common values' amid accelerating global transformations.

A Blueprint for Collaboration

Ding proposed a four-point framework to address contemporary challenges: 1) Strengthening UN-centered global governance, 2) Building an open world economy with fair opportunities for Global South nations, 3) Promoting cross-cultural understanding to prevent ideological divides, and 4) Prioritizing dialogue over confrontation in conflict resolution. The proposals build on President Xi Jinping's 2015 UN address about shared human values transcending political systems.

Deepening China-Russia Ties

The vice premier highlighted recent progress in bilateral relations following President Xi's state visit to Russia, noting enhanced strategic coordination in energy and investment through mechanisms like the China-Russia Energy Business Forum. 'Our nations stand together in preserving WWII historical justice and contemporary international equity,' Ding stated.

Economic Resilience Amid Challenges

Despite global headwinds, Ding emphasized China's commitment to stabilizing markets through 'proactive macro policies' and high-quality development. He invited international businesses to participate in China's modernization drive, pledging wider market access and cooperation opportunities.

The forum also saw Ding engage with leaders from Indonesia, Bahrain, and South Africa, underscoring China's multilateral approach to addressing global economic challenges.
