Xi Jinping Highlights China-Central Asia Ties at Astana Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the second China-Central Asia Summit in Astana from June 16-18, marking the first time the event is hosted in a Central Asian country. The summit, held at Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's invitation, aims to strengthen regional collaboration amid growing global economic shifts.

A Foundation of Shared Vision

President Xi has consistently emphasized mutual trust and strategic alignment with Central Asia. "Our cooperation is built on centuries-old friendship and a shared commitment to development," Xi stated during the inaugural summit in 2023. "Together, we can turn the Eurasian heartland into a hub of connectivity and prosperity."

Economic Synergy and Security

Xi highlighted infrastructure and energy as pillars of collaboration: "The Belt and Road Initiative bridges our futures, with pipelines, railways, and smart technologies weaving a new Silk Road." He also stressed collective security, noting, "Stability in Central Asia is stability for China."

Cultural Bonds and Green Transition

Beyond economics, Xi underscored people-to-people ties: "Our civilizations have conversed for millennia – this dialogue must guide our youth." On sustainability, he urged, "Let’s pioneer green energy corridors to protect our shared mountains and rivers."

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian confirmed the summit will produce joint initiatives on trade, counter-terrorism, and digital innovation, reinforcing what Xi calls "a community with a shared future."
