Shenzhen, Chengdu, Wuhan, and Dalian have been recognized as model cities for “beautiful consumption” in the 2024-2025 China Beautiful Life Survey, unveiled Sunday at a data release event in Hefei. The selection highlights these urban centers’ success in fostering dynamic consumer markets, a key metric in China’s push to expand domestic demand.
The survey results align with priorities outlined in China’s 2025 Government Work Report, which lists “vigorously boosting consumption” as its top economic task. Analysts note that cities like Shenzhen – a tech innovation hub – and Chengdu, known for its cultural tourism, exemplify strategies blending lifestyle appeal with commercial growth. Wuhan’s post-pandemic retail resurgence and Dalian’s coastal trade networks further underscore regional economic diversity.
“Consumer vitality isn’t just about spending power; it reflects how cities integrate sustainability, convenience, and cultural identity into their development models,” stated a representative at the Hefei event. The findings come as China seeks to balance high-quality growth with domestic consumption-driven recovery amid global economic headwinds.
