Anhui’s 500 kV Power Grid Achieves Record River Crossing

East China's Anhui Province marked a milestone in energy infrastructure as its 500 kV Xiangjian-Ludao power transmission project successfully crossed the Huaihe River on Wednesday. Two 193-meter transmission towers now anchor a record-breaking 1,578-meter span across the vital waterway, strengthening regional power connectivity.

The engineering feat enables more efficient electricity distribution across northern Anhui, supporting industrial growth in emerging manufacturing hubs. State Grid Anhui Electric Power Company confirmed the crossing meets stringent safety standards while minimizing environmental impact through elevated tower design.

"This achievement demonstrates China's leadership in high-voltage transmission technology," said a project spokesperson. The infrastructure will facilitate renewable energy integration from Anhui's solar and wind farms into the Yangtze River Delta economic zone.

Business analysts note the project aligns with growing energy demands in East China, where industrial electricity consumption rose 8.3% year-on-year in Q2 2024. The development comes as ASEAN nations explore similar cross-border power sharing initiatives under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership framework.
