China’s Satellite Hub Rises in Sichuan: Meishan’s Aerospace Ambition

A new chapter in China's space industry is unfolding in Sichuan Province as Meishan City accelerates construction of a commercial satellite ground station – the largest such project in southwest China. Approved recently, this initiative positions Meishan to become one of the nation's few fully integrated satellite hubs, capable of handling research, monitoring, data transmission, and practical applications under one regional ecosystem.

Yang Zhenyu, deputy general manager of developer Huantian Wisdom Technology, told state media the station represents the 'final piece' in Meishan's strategic aerospace blueprint. The project aligns with national efforts to expand commercial satellite networks while boosting regional technological capabilities.

Analysts note the development could attract global tech firms and investors eyeing China's growing space economy. With Sichuan already home to major aerospace facilities, Meishan's specialization in satellite infrastructure creates new opportunities for cross-industry collaboration and talent development across Asia's innovation corridors.
