China, Japan Emphasize Historical Lessons in High-Level Talks

China's top diplomat Wang Yi met with Yohei Kono, president of the Japanese Association for the Promotion of International Trade (JAPIT), in Beijing on Wednesday, underscoring the importance of historical reflection and bilateral cooperation amid evolving regional dynamics.

Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, praised Kono's decades-long dedication to fostering China-Japan relations. He highlighted the role of cultural and economic exchanges in stabilizing ties, particularly as global uncertainties persist. 'History cannot be tampered with,' Wang stated, referencing Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba's recent call for Japan to learn from its past. 'Only by drawing lessons can we forge a shared future.'

Kono echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that 'the past cannot be changed, but the future is shaped by today's actions.' He reaffirmed JAPIT's commitment to advancing practical collaboration, signaling optimism for cross-border business opportunities.

The dialogue reflects ongoing efforts to balance historical sensitivities with modern economic interdependence, a theme resonating across Asia's geopolitical landscape.
