China Warns U.S. Space Defense Plan Risks Triggering Arms Race

China has issued a stark warning about the United States' Golden Dome space defense system, asserting that such initiatives could destabilize global security and breach international agreements. At a Thursday press briefing, Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense, accused the U.S. of accelerating militarization in outer space.

"The U.S. actions will once again open the Pandora's box," Zhang stated, referencing the 1967 Outer Space Treaty that prohibits weapons of mass destruction in orbit. "No country has done more than the United States in militarizing space and making it a battlefield."

The remarks come as global powers increasingly focus on space-based capabilities. Analysts suggest the Golden Dome system – details of which remain classified – could involve satellite-mounted defensive or offensive technologies. Zhang emphasized China's call for "concrete actions to uphold strategic stability" rather than "expanding military build-ups" beyond Earth's atmosphere.

This development raises concerns among arms control experts about a potential domino effect, with multiple nations rushing to develop countermeasures. The warning coincides with growing international debates about regulating space activities amid advancing technologies.
