Hangzhou’s Dongchao Art Park will host the inaugural CPOPwave exhibition from May 28 to June 10, showcasing 20 groundbreaking Chinese intellectual properties (IPs) spanning literature, cinema, gaming, animation, and collectible art. The event highlights China’s growing soft power as its pop culture gains traction worldwide.
CPOP, or Chinese pop culture, reflects the rapid evolution of the country’s creative industries. Blockbusters like The Wandering Earth and globally popular games such as Honor of Kings and Black Myth: Wukong exemplify this trend, blending traditional themes with cutting-edge innovation. These IPs were selected based on 2023–2024 engagement metrics from platforms including YouTube, TikTok, and Google Search, underscoring their cross-border appeal.
Analysts note that CPOP’s rise aligns with increasing international interest in Asian media. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore China’s creative ecosystem, from narrative-driven novels to immersive digital experiences, while fostering dialogue about cultural globalization.
