Chinese Premier Reaffirms Commitment to Gulf Cooperation
Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized Beijing's readiness to deepen cooperation with Kuwait during high-level talks in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, signaling strengthened economic and diplomatic ties between Asia and the Gulf region.
At a meeting with Kuwait's Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Li stressed China's commitment to "steady development of bilateral relations" through enhanced trade and cultural exchanges. The discussions occurred on the sidelines of the landmark ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, which brings together 10 Southeast Asian nations and six Gulf states.
Analysts note the timing holds strategic significance as China seeks to expand its Belt and Road Initiative partnerships. Kuwait remains a crucial energy partner for China, accounting for 6.3% of its crude oil imports in 2023 according to customs data.
The summit agenda includes discussions on digital economy collaboration and green energy transitions – areas where Chinese technology could complement Gulf investment capital. Business leaders anticipate new agreements in renewable energy infrastructure and AI-driven logistics solutions.
