The Shanghai International Film and TV Festival will return with expanded programming in June 2025, organizers revealed at a Beijing press conference. The film festival segment (June 13-22) and TV festival (June 23-27) will showcase nearly 4,900 creative works from global participants competing for Asia's prestigious Golden Goblet and Magnolia Awards.
Jointly organized by China Media Group and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, this year's events highlight China's growing role as a cultural bridge. "Our selection includes 48% more international submissions than 2024, particularly from Belt and Road partner countries," said festival director Li Xiaoyu during the announcement.
Industry analysts note the festivals' timing aligns with Shanghai's push to become a global media innovation hub. The 10-day film program will feature emerging technologies in cinematography, while the TV festival includes market-focused sessions on streaming platform collaborations.
For business professionals, dedicated forums will explore co-production opportunities between Asian and international studios. Cultural explorers can anticipate special screenings of heritage cinema restorations from across Asia.
