China, Indonesia Strengthen Ties Amid Global Economic Shifts

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, chairman of Indonesia's National Economic Council, in Beijing on Tuesday, emphasizing deepening cooperation and addressing global economic challenges. The meeting marked a milestone as the two nations celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.

Key Areas of Collaboration

Wang highlighted China's commitment to advancing high-quality development of flagship projects like the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor. He called for expanded collaboration in ocean resources, mineral development, and emerging industries, framing the partnership as a counterbalance to 'unilateralism and trade bullying practices' affecting global stability.

BRICS and Regional Unity

China congratulated Indonesia on its full BRICS membership, with both sides pledging to uphold the Bandung Spirit—a symbol of post-colonial solidarity. Wang stressed the need to resist anti-globalization trends and promote regional economic integration, aiming to 'build a shared Asia-Pacific homeland.'

Indonesia's Perspective

Luhut affirmed the strength of bilateral ties, noting Indonesia's economic growth is 'inseparable' from cooperation with China. He praised achievements in trade, technology transfer, and infrastructure, particularly the HSR's regional impact. Indonesia seeks to enhance cultural exchanges and amplify Global South solidarity through the partnership.
