Key Diplomatic Engagements Highlight Global Health Priorities
Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong will attend the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva next week, followed by official visits to Switzerland and Belarus, according to a Friday announcement by the Chinese foreign ministry. The engagements underscore China’s commitment to multilateral cooperation in global health and bilateral partnerships.
Liu, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, will first participate in the WHA meetings from May 18. This comes at the invitation of World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The assembly is expected to address critical issues including pandemic preparedness and equitable healthcare access.
Following the Geneva leg, Liu will visit Belarus to co-chair the sixth meeting of the China-Belarus Intergovernmental Committee on Cooperation. The discussions aim to strengthen economic and technological collaboration between the two countries, building on existing Belt and Road Initiative projects.
The ministry spokesperson emphasized that Liu’s visits align with China’s “active role in advancing global health governance and fostering mutually beneficial partnerships” across Eurasia.
