The National Center for Philosophy and Social Sciences Documentation (NCPSSD), a leading Chinese academic platform, recorded a 34.2% jump in international visits in 2024, signaling growing global engagement with China’s social sciences research. The surge was announced at a Beijing symposium on Friday, where experts highlighted the platform's role in amplifying Chinese scholarship worldwide.
Organized by the Library of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the NCPSSD, the event released two reports underscoring the platform’s broadening influence. Top journals accessed by overseas users include Qiushi, an official publication of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, alongside specialized titles in education, archaeology, and religious studies.
Since its 2018 launch, the NCPSSD has evolved into the world’s largest open-access hub for Chinese-language philosophy and social sciences research. It now hosts 27 million data records, serves over 1,300 overseas institutions, and attracts users from 197 countries and regions. Cumulative visits have surpassed 1.6 billion, with analysts crediting its multilingual interfaces and diverse content for widening appeal.
A key focus of this year’s symposium is artificial intelligence’s transformative potential for academic publishing. Editors from 80+ Chinese journals will explore AI’s role in enhancing research dissemination while addressing ethical concerns. A proposal on responsible AI integration is expected to conclude the event.
