Shanghai Delivers World’s Largest Vehicle Carrier, Boosting Green Export Ambitions

The world's largest ocean-going car carrier, Anji Ansheng, capable of transporting up to 9,500 vehicles, was officially delivered in Shanghai on Thursday. Developed by SAIC Anji Logistics—a subsidiary of the Chinese mainland’s SAIC Motor—the vessel represents a technological leap in sustainable shipping, featuring carbon-neutral fuel compatibility and intelligent energy-saving systems.

Departing immediately for Europe with 7,000 domestically manufactured new energy vehicles (NEVs), including SAIC’s MG models, the ship underscores China’s growing dominance in green automotive exports. Analysts highlight the vessel’s operational efficiency and environmental focus as aligning with global decarbonization goals.

This milestone reflects broader trends in Asia’s clean energy infrastructure development, offering insights for investors monitoring low-carbon supply chains. For the Asian diaspora and global audiences, it signals technological progress in the region’s maritime industry.
