China Expands Visa-Free Access to 5 Latin American Countries

China will allow ordinary passport holders from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay to enter visa-free for up to 15 days starting June 1, 2025, through May 31, 2026, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced Thursday. The move aims to enhance cultural exchanges and economic cooperation amid growing ties between China and Latin America.

The policy reflects Beijing’s focus on deepening “practical collaboration” with regional partners, building on existing free trade agreements and infrastructure projects across sectors like energy and agriculture. Analysts suggest streamlined travel could spur tourism, cross-border investment, and business networking ahead of key multilateral summits in 2026.

Residents of the five countries previously required visas or qualified for limited transit exemptions. The new window aligns with China’s broader efforts to facilitate international exchanges while balancing security protocols. Authorities emphasized the framework will undergo regular assessments to ensure sustainable implementation.
