China Temporarily Suspends Export Controls on 28 US Entities

China has paused export control measures targeting 28 U.S.-based entities for 90 days starting May 14, signaling a potential easing of bilateral trade friction, according to a statement from the Chinese mainland's Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday. This move comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize economic ties between the two nations.

The suspension allows businesses in both countries to temporarily avoid disruptions tied to previously announced restrictions. Analysts suggest the pause could create space for negotiations on long-standing disputes, including technology transfers and market access. A ministry spokesperson emphasized China's commitment to 'balanced and mutually beneficial trade practices' but did not specify conditions for lifting the controls permanently.

The decision follows recent high-level talks between Chinese and U.S. trade representatives, with observers noting renewed focus on curbing decoupling trends. 'This breather aligns with global market expectations for predictable cross-Pacific commerce,' said Dr. Li Wei, a Beijing-based trade policy expert. The affected entities span sectors including aerospace components and advanced materials manufacturing.
