Quzhou, China — China's Li Dayin secured the men's 89kg snatch gold medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships on Monday, defending his reputation as the category's Asian record holder. Li lifted 170kg and 176kg in snatch, while opting to conserve energy by skipping his final attempt. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s Ro Kwang Ryol followed closely with a 168kg snatch, securing silver.
Despite a back injury affecting his clean & jerk performance, Li earned bronze in the discipline (203kg) and silver overall (379kg). Ro dominated the clean & jerk with 212kg, claiming both the event gold and overall victory (380kg). Young teammate Pan Yunhua, 19, showcased resilience by lifting 209kg in clean & jerk, setting an Asian junior record with a 372kg total.
In the men's 81kg category, China's Luo Chongyang triumphed with a snatch gold (162kg) and overall victory (362kg), narrowly defeating Indonesia's Rizki Juniansyah. South Korea's Son Hyeon-ho made history as the first to lift 200kg in clean & jerk, earning gold in the event.
The championships highlighted rising talents and competitive intensity across Asian teams, with athletes from the Chinese mainland, the DPRK, and South Korea securing podium positions.
