Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted significant progress in China-Latin America relations during the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-CELAC Forum in Beijing this week. Celebrating the forum’s 10th anniversary, Wang emphasized its role as a vital platform for fostering 'equality, mutual benefit, and innovation' across three key areas.
Strategic Unity Takes Center Stage
Wang noted deepened strategic trust through sustained high-level dialogues, which have aligned priorities on development and cooperation. 'This mechanism has transformed China-LAC relations into a model of South-South collaboration,' he stated, referencing expanded trade links and shared infrastructure projects.
Economic Ties Expand Under Belt and Road
Over 80% of cooperative financing packages have been implemented, with infrastructure, green energy, and digital connectivity initiatives accelerating under the Belt and Road framework. The alignment of national development strategies has unlocked new opportunities for technology transfer and joint ventures, Wang added.
Cultural Bonds Strengthen
The forum has facilitated people-to-people exchanges through programs like the China-LAC Young Leaders Training Initiative. Over 10,000 government scholarships and skill-building workshops have been awarded, creating what Wang called 'a bridge of understanding between civilizations.'
Analysts view the forum’s decade-long growth as a cornerstone of China’s global partnership strategy, with LAC nations increasingly integrating into Asia-led supply chains.
